The Week Ahead: Madison Unites, Groundbreaking Reads, Summer Movies, Why People Don't Vote, Meetings And More

The National Weather Service is calling for some unsettled weather over the course of the next week, we'll have a few sunny days, but also some thunderstorms here and there. Check out the National Weather Service website for the latest forecast

Whether a sunny day at the beach, or a rainy day at home, what better way to spend it than with a good book? That's where the Scranton Memorial Library's "Groundbreaking Reads" comes in. Stop by the library anytime after Monday at 9 a.m. to find out more about this program, and to find out how you can become eligible for a drawing for a new kindle.

On Tuesday and Friday, enjoy the Summer Movie Matinees, also at Scranton Memorial Library. Popcorn! Soft drinks! And great movies! Showing Tuesday, June 25th: Little Women (1994) "A lush adaptation of the March sisters’ struggles to cope with home life during the Civil War, guided by their wise mother and their own imaginations." 115 min. (PG) And on Friday, July 26th: Field of Dreams, "An Iowa corn farmer, hearing voices, interprets them as a command to build a baseball diamond in his fields. He does, and the Chicago Black Sox come."          107 min (PG).

Also on Tuesday at the library, check out Broadway Tails, an event sure to please any animal lovers.

Why don't some people vote? The League Of Women Voters--East Shore on Tuesday will try to answer that question at its annual meeting and dinner.

On Wednesday, Madison Youth & Family Services is offering community training, there is a program on compost at the library, and, in Farmington, the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival.

For business owners, on Wednesday, SCORE is offering a program on "how to protect your business."

On Thursday, Madison Unites! will be a fundraiser to help two businesses in Madison that suffered from a recent fire downtown

Also on Thursday, check out Cruise Night at Bishop's Orchards, and there will be another great program at the library about gardening for young children.

On Friday, there will be a concert and movie night at Bauer Park, and the town's summer concert series will start.

And if you're looking for a fur-ever friend, you might want to save the date for Saturday, there will be an adoption event at Bishop's Orchards in Guilford.
