The arctic blasts will be disappearing (at least for a few days) and April-like showers are headed our way. Go figure.
This Sunday, January 12 at 2:00, enjoy "The Best Songs from Hollywood and Broadway" performed by Brian Gillie at the Scranton Library. Brian Gillie sings and plays piano with a hearty dose of sensitivity and mischief. The audience is Brian's supporting sing-along cast during this one-hour musical showcase of America's glorious and outrageous songs from stage and screen. No sleepwalk down memory lane here. These renditions are as fresh and crisp as the originals: Gershwin, Berlin, Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Lowe and many more, all revived in mint condition. Journey of the Universe: a documentary exploring the human connection to Earth and the cosmos, produced by Yale historian of religions Mary Evelyn Tucker. This film invites viewers to become travelers on a journey that explores the origins of the universe, the emergence of life, and the rise of humans. Journey of the Universe weaves together the findings of modern science with cultural traditions of the West, China, Africa, India, and indigenous peoples to explore cosmic evolution as a process of creativity, connection, and inter-dependence. 55 minutes, plus discussion to follow.

This screening is made possible by the Friends of Hammonasset and Dr. Don Rankin, who will facilitate the discussion after the film. Dr. Rankin earned his MD from the University of Rochester, a BS degree in Chemistry from Colgate University and is recently retired as Attending Physician in Emergency Medicine at Bridgeport Hospital.
