Vista Members Honor Law Enforcement Appreciation Day with Visits to Westbrook and Madison Police Departments

Madison, CT – Vista Life Innovations (Vista) members recently celebrated Law Enforcement Appreciation Day by visiting the Westbrook and Madison Police Departments to learn more about the vital role of police officers in their communities. This special day provided an opportunity for members to connect with law enforcement, gain insights into their responsibilities, and express gratitude for their commitment to public safety.

Vista, a nationally accredited post-secondary program that empowers individuals with disabilities is proud to encourage meaningful interactions between its members and local heroes like the men and women of law enforcement.

During the visit, members enjoyed reuniting with Officer Mulligan from Madison, who many recognized from their time working at Stop ‘n’ Shop. Officer Mulligan and his colleagues warmly welcomed the group, sharing insights into their day-to-day responsibilities, including the dispatching of 911 calls and their critical role as first responders during emergencies.

Members also learned about various community programs led by local police departments, which educate children about resisting peer pressure and making safe choices, and stranger danger education, which helps children feel confident about seeking help when needed. The officers emphasized their dedication to building trust and fostering positive relationships in the community. “It was great to see how much police officers do beyond responding to emergencies," shared one Vista member.

The event also highlighted the importance of community-police relationships. By engaging directly with law enforcement, Vista members were able to gain a deeper appreciation for the ways officers contribute to making their towns safer and more connected.
