USA TODAY High School sports is sponsoring a People's Champion competition and the Tigers are the contender for Connecticut. "Automatic Bid: Tigers have won 26 in a row, including 13-0 this season to defend their Class L state title," says the entry under Daniel Hand High School's name.

To vote, go to this page http://contest.usatodayhss.com/ , then click on vote. Then search on "Hand," or scroll down until you see Daniel Hand High School. It's as simple as that. So, far Hand has about 1,200 votes, so we have some work to do here. After you vote, send this article to your friends via email, or post it on Facebook and ask them to vote.

This first round of voting ends at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10. The top four teams in each region advance to the second round. The contest has three rounds of voting (see rules and prizes) and ends at 11 a.m. Jan. 18.

The high school football season officially ended over the holiday break and hundreds of 2012 state champions have been crowned. Now we're letting the fans decide the best of the best.

USA TODAY High School Sports began its People's Champion competition at 11 a.m. ET Monday, with 64 schools vying for a $500 prize and the chance to be named the top high school football team – as chosen by fans – of 2012.   Each state, plus Washington D.C., features a representative in the competition. The highest-ranked champ in each state, as determined by the Massey computer rankings, automatically qualified for the contest. In addition, the USA TODAY High School Sports editorial staff chose 13 at-large teams.
