Vote Set To Change Madison's Academy Community Center Project Budget
The vote to increase the construction budget is scheduled for May 6.
Information from Madison First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons:
MADISON, CT — The Board of Selectmen recently recommended a resolution that would seek voter approval on May 6th to increase the Academy Community Center Project budget from $15.9M (approved in February 2022) to $24M. After recently seeking bids for construction of the project, it was determined that the project budget was short by approximately $8M and more funding would be needed to meet community expectations for the renovation of the building.
Any additional spending on the project above the $15.9M in bonding already approved would be solely financed by grants and donations - no additional bonding or town funds are being requested for the construction of the project. The Town has already been awarded $7.625M in major grants that the Board is requesting to apply to the $8M budget gap.

Additional approvals will be necessary before sending the project to referendum on May 6th, which would add an additional question to the ballot for the Budget Referendum. The Town is tentatively planning to hold several public information sessions about the status of the project and the proposed referendum towards the end of March and early April. More details on the information sessions will be available once finalized.
