The big news this weekend may be this year's first named storm, Andrea. It's making its way up the east coast and is expected, as of Thursday, to arrive in Connecticut late, late Friday, perhaps around midnight. We may get a bit of nasty weather beforehand, and the forecast may change, so if you have outdoor activities, please check the local forecast with weather.gov before heading out. Remember, if you can hear thunder you should not be outdoors.
John Bowers, the emergency management director in Madison, said the impending arrival of Andrea should remind everyone that they should have a basic plan in order in preparation for the Atlantic Hurricane Season, which is expected to be particularly active this year.
"The general message to the public is that with the official start of Hurricane season 6 days ago, and now with the first named storm bearing down on us, they should visit a site like http://www.ready.gov/make-a-plan and plan to be independent and self-sufficient for the first 3 days after a disaster, especially those with special needs," Bowers said Thursday.
The worst of Andrea may be overnight Friday into early Saturday, leaving us the rest of the weekend to play
Gil Simmons, with WXEdge, said Thursday that the track of the storm shows it is headed our way. The good news is that the worst of it might be overnight Friday, from around midnight, to early Saturday morning. The bad news is that it could cause significant local flooding. Simmons said that the storm could bring two to four inches of rain, or "about a month's worth in a 12-hour time frame." Check out his forecast on WXEdge for more information. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the tri-state area starting late Thursday and into Saturday afternoon.
Here is some more good news about Andrea. Andrea at bellaPerlina in Madison is having a 20 percent off bellaPerlina-made items in honor of the storm that goes by her name. Friday only! Check out this post for more details.

And, if it's art you're interested in, you won't want to miss “Dialogue: Representation and Abstraction," on Sunday.
