Wow! 2,000 Seats Slated For Strong Field, Thanks To Donations!

The Strong Center at the Surf Club fundraising group is getting a good start on finishing strong, having just dropped off another check to Madison Town Hall in the amount of $195,000.

This check will allow for the construction of a bleachers that include 2,000 places to sit, compared to about 940 before.

This is the second large donation made to the group. The first large donation, of $450,000, paid for the lights on the field. The town also has kicked in $100,000 from the Strong Fund, and $40,000 gained from the sale of top soil and scrap metal from the project.

First Selectman Fillmore McPherson said Friday he was very grateful for the donations, and the hard work of the volunteers who are seeking additional donations for Phase Two of the project, which will allow for the construction of an entrance plaza.

"We are hoping to have the bleachers up for the first game in September, but it will be tight," McPherson said.
