MANCHESTER, CT — Four tobacco and e-cigarette establishments in Manchester failed a recent compliance check for underage sales, police said.

The focus was on ID checks to make sure the buyers were 21 and older.

Manchester police and the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program visited 15 stores in all on Oct. 21.

Non-compliant stores were:

  • Fuel+, located at 220 Spruce St.
  • Jay and Jay's Smoke Shop, 133 Spruce St.
  • Wasu Mart, 436 Center St.
  • Citgo, 116 Center St.

The offending clerks were fined $800 for first-time infractions, police said.

  • XTra Mart, 404 Hartford Road
  • Super Convenience, 964 Hartford Road
  • M&R Liquors, 120 Tolland Turnpike
  • Fred's Package Store, 117 Spruce St.
  • Quick Daily Mart, 129 Spruce St.
  • Gulf, 770 Main St.
  • Bros Mini Mart, 245 Spruce St.
  • Smoke N Vape, 695 M ain St.
  • Market on Main, 793 Main St.
  • Smoke Zone Smoke Shop, 899 Main St.
  • Neighbors Mart, 129 Center St.

Manchester police said they will be working with the Change Collaborative to conduct more checks "in the coming weeks."
