Build Up of Sediment Leads to Dredging Proposal
Manchester's Center Springs Pond was last dredged in 1994.

A build up of sediment in Center Springs Pond has led to a dredging proposal, reports the Hartford Courant.
The pond was last dredged in 1994 and town officials have proposed spending $500,000 for restoration. The project is included in a proposed $11.78 million public infrastructure bond.

The water quality has worsened over the past 20 years as sediment has built up and algae blooms have lengthened, depleting oxygen in the water. If the bond issue passes, the pond would be lowered and a contractor would remove the sediment, dry it, and haul it away.

The project would be more expensive if the material cannot be taken to the landfill.
