MANCHESTER, CT — Emergency responders pulled an elderly man from a burning car that had crashed onto a church lawn over the weekend in Manchester, police said.

The crash took place Saturday at 6:48 p.m. on South Adams Street near Assumption Church, according to a police report. Responders encountered a vehicle that had crashed into a tree and subsequently caught fire, police said.

The vehicle was traveling eastbound on West Center Street when it veered off the road onto a grassy area of the church property and collided with a tree, according to a police report.

The driver, an 86-year-old man from Manchester, was rescued from the vehicle by emergency crews and transported to a local trauma center with life-threatening injuries, according to a police report.
