Evening, Night Lane Closures Coming to I-84 in Manchester, April 13 Thru August

Work on the Interstate 84 bridge over Slater Street, between Exits 62 and 63, will close some lanes in both directions.

Work on the Interstate 84 bridges over Slater Street, between Exits 62 and 63 in Manchester, will mean lane closures evenings and overnight for months, starting April 13, the Connecticut Department of Transportation announced.

The work — to replace “bridge expansion joint systems” on the overpasses, is not expected to end until Aug. 31. If weather doesn’t permit, then the start of the project will be delayed.

The department announced these times for planned lane closures:

  • I-84 East: Monday–Wednesday 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Thursday 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Friday 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday
  • I-84 West: Monday–Thursday 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Friday 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday

Anyone continuing east on Interstate 84 through Vernon will face even more evening and nighttime lane closures — at four different bridges, according to the announcement. For all four spots, the announcement says to expect lane closures between 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., Mondays through Fridays.

The work is part of a 12-site, $2.64 million contract the state awarded to New England Road Inc. of Clinton, CT in November 2013.
