MANCHESTER, CT — The latest journey to a Hidden Gem goes to the equator, via Hartford County.

Tucked into a classic area of Downtown Manchester is La Toquilla, a restaurant that serves up authentic Ecuadorian cuisine.

It's located in an iconic brick building at 21 Oak St.

Popular menu items include encebollado (a fish stew that is considered a national dish), tigrillo (a coastal breakfast offering), lomo salteado (beef strips mixed with onions, tomatoes and soy sauce with french fries and white rice) and chaulafan (an Ecuadorian chicken fried rice).
