Liens Issued After Property Owners Leave Manchester Sidewalks Unplowed

A total of $66,500 in liens have been issued by Manchester town government to pay a private firm to clear sidewalks that have been snowed in after, the town says, property owners didn’t clean them, according to the Hartford Courant.

The town recently issued 27 liens, and earlier in the winter it issued 24, for a total of 51, the news report said.

A town ordinance requires sidewalks to be cleared within 24 hours after snowfall. Most of the properties with liens have been abandoned or are in foreclosure, according to the newspaper. The money to pay the snow shovelers will need to be paid before the properties can be resold.

For the upcoming week, the National Weather Service forecasts a chance of snow for Manchester on Sunday morning, but then there’s a chance of rain to follow and wash it away.

For Saturday, watch out for ice on sidewalks, after freezing rain falls in the hours before dawn.
