Manchester Drivers: Enfield DMV Offices Closed Thru Friday, April 3

If you have DMV business to conduct, find out what your options are.

The Enfield office of the Department of Motor Vehicles will be closed next week for employee training on major customer-service upgrades allowing more online services.

The Enfield office will be closed Tuesday, March 31 through Friday, April 3. The office will reopen Saturday, April 4 for its usual 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. hours. The offices on Tuesday, April 7, will resume their normal schedules.

For customers in areas served by the Enfield DMV office, alternate locations include the Wethersfield, and Willimantic DMV offices as well as American Automobile Association offices for license and identification card renewals.

DMV has announced that various branch offices statewide will alternately close so employees learn how to operate the new system. DMV will announce when customers can expect a startup of the new system.

Some closed offices will continue to handle only learner’s permit test appointments. These comprise one of the highest-in-demand services DMV offers. Customers are advised to check the agency website (ct.gov/dmv) for any updates before going to a branch office.

  • Expect some delays at branch offices. Check real-time online wait times at ct.gov/dmv or through a download of DMV’s app at ct.gov/dmv/apps
  • Renew vehicle registrations by mail or online if your renewal indicates you are eligible.
  • Go to the nearest AAA office for license renewals to avoid lines. ct.gov/dmv/AAA.
  • Improving the existing online registration renewal program.

When the replacement of the 40-year-old computer system is completed, online customers will be able to:

  • Check for items, such as unpaid property taxes, lack of insurance, delinquent parking violations, which can hold up a registration renewal and cause repeat trips to DMV.
  • Reprint a registration certificate from a home or other computer.
  • Cancel a registration online.
  • Order special plates, such as vanity plates.
  • Order replacements for mangled plates.
  • Provide customers with an option for DMV to contact them either by mail or e-mail.
