MANCHESTER, CT — It was a close call on New Year's Eve for not only three people who fell through some ice on a pond in Manchester, but for rescuers.
At 2:11 p.m. in Dec. 31, a Manchester fire crew, along with Manchester police, responded to the rear of a home on the 200 block of Hackmatack Street after receiving a call about "multiple parties" who had fallen through some ice, fire officials said.
Responders located one adult and two young children that had fallen through a patch of ice and were in need of "immediate rescue," fire officials said. Authorities said the pond was approximately a quarter-acre in size and located approximately 200 yards from the street. All three victims were located approximately 35 ft from shore in water approximately 6 feet deep, authorities said.
