Manchester Honoring Veteran Firefighter On His Retirement
A veteran firefighter in Manchester is being honored for his nearly two decades of service.

MANCHESTER, CT — A retiring veteran firefighter in Manchester is being honored for his nearly two decades of service.
Lt. Bob Turkington was working his final shift in Manchester Tuesday. He was hired in July 2006 as of a firefighter paramedic, with assignments at Companies 4 and 1.
He served as a "paramedic preceptor" and contributed to multiple department committees, fore officials said. Turkington was instrumental in developing the department's community outreach program, establishing the mobile Covid testing operation during the pandemic and coordinating many of the department's public relations details.

He was then promoted to lieutenant in May 2023, and took command of Engine 1 on Shift 1, and was later recognized as Manchester's "hometown hero" in 2023.
Said fire officials, "With a passion for service and penchant for eloquence, Lieutenant Turkington leaves the department having attended thousands of incidents and having cared for countless people. Best wishes for a happy and healthy retirement."
