Manchester Residents Sound Off on Safety Issues
We asked Patch Readers to share their biggest safety concerns in Manchester. Here's what they'd change.

Manchester, CT- Summer’s nearly here and with each walk in the park, day at the pool and backyard BBQ comes the risk of snakebites, drowning and fires, but don’t worry! There’s no reason to stay cooped up inside all season.
Patch put together a list of summer safety tips to keep you safe and having fun while the weather’s warm. Make sure to give snakes their distance and always swim with a buddy to stay carefree during the dog days.
Keeping these tips in mind, there are other possible dangers that affect Manchester residents year round.

We asked Patch Readers what they thought the biggest safety issues were in their town. Here’s a list of the most pressing problems, from break-ins to traffic jams:
- "Kids crossing the street either parents aren't watching ,or it's teenagers who think they can just cross when they see cars coming and they don't care"
- "Bushes growing too close to the street or street corners so a driver can't see oncoming traffic when making a turn."
- "People speeding through intersections and not yielding right of way to pedestrians including walkers coming home from high school, middle school and elementary schools!"
- "Speeding through elementary school zones especially on Cooper Street from 6:30 a.m. through 9:30 a.m. and then 3:30 - 7 p.m."
- "People believing they are above the law & can do anything they please like: impeding the flow of traffic by congregating in the street like its a park; walking in the road instead of the proper way of sidewalk or side of road; Not crossing streets in crosswalks; Abandoned houses that are in disrepair or lack of yard maintenance; Not properly removing snow off walkways during winter months"
- "Jaywalkers and non-licensed vehicles In The streets (scooters, minibikes, etc)"
- "Drug dealers at any and all the local parks"
- "Speeding."
- "High property taxes"
