Venerable Veterans Organization In Manchester Has A New Look

The Army & Navy Club has a new sign that better reflects its mission.

MANCHESTER, CT — The venerable Army & Navy Club in Downtown Manchester has a new look.

A new sign not only shows off recent renovations, but "highlights the mission of the club," officials said. Not only are the letters more noticeable, but emblems from each major branch of the service adorn the marquis.

The mission of the Army & Navy Club is to "preserve social activities for all veterans and families."

The club, is located at 1090 Main St. It was founded in 1919 for returning World War I Veterans and the property on which it stands was donated by the Cheney Brothers Textile Mills. Local businesses and citizens donated building materials and labor.

The Club has since opened its membership to veterans of all wars.

"The original members have gone the way of all good soldiers but the organization remains active in many patriotic and civic causes," officials point out.

There are a range of activities sponsored by the club and Bingo is staged every Saturday night.

Hours are Monday through Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m.; Fridays from 3 to 11 p.m.; Saturdays from 1 to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 8 p.m.
