Work Set To Begin On New I-291 Exit Numbers
A new sequence of highway numbers is being put in place from Manchester To Windsor and the project is set to begin.

MANCHESTER, CT — The Connecticut Department of Transportation is set to commence work on exit number revisions along Interstate 291 from Windsor to Manchester. The project is scheduled to begin on March 30.
The project (officially DOT 0171-0481) consists of the replacement of signs and sign supports along the entire length of I-291 from Manchester to Windsor, along with the limited-access section of state Route 187/189 in Bloomfield.
The new signs and sign supports will be installed in accordance with the latest Federal and State standards and guidelines, DOT officials said.

The types of signs that will be replaced include large overhead, side-mounted guide signs and on-ramp entrance signs. Two variable message signs will be installed on I-291, one northbound in Manchester, and one southbound in Windsor.
Exit numbering is revised to be mileage based per Federal requirements.

The work was awarded to The Quaker Corporation at a cost of $5,551,444.10 on May 24.
The project is scheduled to be completed on Dec. 25, 2025.
Temporary lane and shoulder closures on I-291 eastbound and westbound will be set up, as needed, DOT officials said. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will guide motorists through the work zones, officials said. Work for the project is scheduled from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Sunday and Monday.
DOT officials said schedule changes may become necessary due to weather delays or other "unforeseen" conditions.
Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
