3 More Huskies Add To Staggering All-Time Number In WNBA Draft
Bueckers adds to UConn's impressicve numbers with No. 1 overall picks.

STORRS, CT — As The University of Connecticut traveled as a team to Monday night's WNBA Draft, three Huskies in all were called to the stage.
Paige Bueckers became UConn's sixth overall No. 1 early in the night when drafted by the Dallas Wings, but the cheers were just as loud toward the end of the festivities, when UConn graduate student Kaitlyn Chen and redshirt senior Aubrey Griffin were selected in the third round Monday at The Shed at Hudson Yards in New York City.
Chen was picked No. 30 overall by the Golden State Valkyries. Griffin was taken No. 37 overall by the Minnesota Lynx.

Chen transferred to UConn for the 2024-25 season after spending four seasons at Princeton. She started all 40 games for the Huskies this season. Chen compiled 1,553 points and 494 assists in her collegiate career. She was the 2023 Ivy League Player of the Year and a two-time First Team All-Ivy selection as well as a 2024 WBCA Honorable Mention All-American.
Chen earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Princeton in 2024. She will graduate with a master’s degree in sport management from UConn in May.

Griffin compiled 986 points and 680 rebounds in her five seasons played at UConn. She returned from injury this season to be a key player for the Huskies off the bench in their championship run. Griffin was a 2023 All-Big East Honorable Mention selection and averaged career highs with 11.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game as a junior.
Griffin graduated with a bachelor’s degree in women’s studies from UConn in 2023.
UConn has had 50 college draft selections in the history of the WNBA.
Bueckers capped her collegiate career by leading the Huskies to the 2025 NCAA Championship. In her four seasons playing at UConn, Bueckers took the Huskies to four Final Fours, two National Championship game appearances and eight Big East titles.
The Hopkins, Minn., native is UConn's leader in career scoring average (19.8 points per game) and ranks No. 3 in career points (2,439).
In her final season in 2024-25, Bueckers led the Huskies with 19.9 points on a .534/.419/.889 shooting split. She also led UConn with 4.6 assists per game and posted a 3.52 assist-turnover ratio, the highest single-season total by a Husky.
Bueckers has been a record-setter since arriving to Storrs in 2020. She became the first-ever freshman to earn the Wooden Award, Naismith Trophy, AP National Player of the Year and USBWA National Player of the Year in 2021.
As the 2025 Wade Trophy winner, Bueckers has won every major national player of the year award.
Bueckers was a three-time Big East Player of the Year and the first-ever three-time conference tournament Most Outstanding Player. She was also a three-time All-Big East First Team selection.
Bueckers holds the UConn record for most points in NCAA Tournament games (477), which ranks third nationally.
Bueckers graduated in May 2024 with a degree in human development and family sciences.
Bueckers is UConn’s 48th WNBA college draft selection and the 28th first-round selection for the program.
WNBA training camps begin April 27. The 2025 regular season begins on May 16.
