ASHFORD, CT — A car wound up in a sequence of vehicular pinball in a wild crash that ended with the vehicle upside down and the driver dead at a Dollar General Store in eastern Connecticut, state police said.

According to a crash report, a 51-year-old Putnam man was driving a 2023 Subaru Outback on the eastbound side of Route 74 in Ashford on Dec. 18.

It was 4:17 a.m.

Suddenly, the Subaru left the pavement, hit a Department of Transportation traffic sign, continued east across an intersection and wound up in the parking lot of the Dollar General store at 5 Squaw Hollow Road, according to a crash report.

The Subaru then struck several safety bollards in the parking lot and rolled over, according to a crash report. The driver, identified as Roy Telly Anderson, was partially ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a crash report.
