Legislators to Unveil 'Affirmative Consent' Bill at UConn
Students, women's rights advocates are expected to join officials on Friday.

Two state legislators will unveil their proposed “Affirmative Consent’ bill at a rally at UConn on Friday.
State Sen. Mae Flexer (D-29) of Killingly and state Rep. Gregory Haddad (D-54) of Mansfield will be joined by students, women’s rights advocates and others when they announce their introduction of an ‘Affirmative Consent’ bill for the current 2016 legislation session at 12:30 p.m. on Friday at the UConn Women’s Center on the fourth floor of the UConn Student Union, 2110 Hillside Rd., Storrs.
The proposed ‘Affirmative Consent’ law directs a college or university’s student disciplinary board to determine whether there was an unambiguous and voluntary agreement to engage in sexual activity in order to determine if that activity was consensual or not. If not, a student could be subject to expulsion or some other punishment.
Last year’s ‘Affirmative Consent’ bill passed the state Senate on an overwhelmingly bipartisan 35-1 vote, but it died on the House calendar when it was not brought up for discussion.
