Teen In Critical Condition After Being Shot in the Head

CT State Police are investigating how the 17-year-old from Willimantic was shot.

State Police detectives from Eastern District Major Crime (EDMC) are investigating the shooting that left a 17-year-old Willimantic boy critically injured.

It was about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday when troopers from Troop K- Colchester responded to 63 Windham Center Rd., Windham for a shooting victim. It was reported that the victim received a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

Troopers found the victim in an upstairs bedroom where they began first aid. EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to Windham Hospital for further evaluation of his injuries. The victim was later transferred to Hartford Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

EDMC Detectives have assumed the investigation. The incident was initially reported as a drive-by shooting, however, after further investigation it was determined this information was not accurate, police said.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of this shooting.

The victim was identified as Wesley Rodriguez of 178 North St., Willimantic.
