Driver Crashes 40 Feet Down Embankment, Taken To Hospital: Meriden Police

Firefighters extricated the 19-year-old driver from the vehicle after the crash, according to police.

MERIDEN, CT — A driver was hospitalized after crashing 40 feet down an embankment Wednesday afternoon in Meriden, according to police.

Police responded around 2:50 p.m. to a report of a motor vehicle accident in the area of Woodland Ridge and Golden Street.

Preliminary investigations found that a 2005 Toyota 4Runner left the roadway and came to rest approximately 40 feet down an embankment within a wooded area, according to police.

Police said the driver, a 19-year-old woman, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was trapped inside when emergency personnel arrived.

“The Meriden Fire Department successfully extricated her from the vehicle,” police wrote in a news release. “Fortunately, she sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was subsequently transported to an area hospital for medical treatment.”

Police said officials from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded to the scene to “assess the situation due to the potential presence of vehicle fluids in a nearby stream.”

“With the cooperation of the Meriden Fire Department, the stream was evaluated and deemed safe,” police wrote.

The road was reopened to traffic around 6:45 p.m.

The Meriden Police Accident Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the crash.
