Ex-School Employee Sent 'Inappropriate Texts' To Student: Meriden PD

The former employee is accused of sending inappropriate texts to a middle school student, according to police.

MERIDEN, CT — A former school Climate Specialist is accused of sending "inappropriate texts" to a middle school student in Meriden, according to police.

Meriden police launched an investigation on Oct. 29 into a report of inappropriate text messages exchanged between a Lincoln Middle School student and a former school Climate Specialist, according to Lt. Darrin McKay.

McKay said police obtained an arrest warrant following a thorough investigation that included multiple interviews and forensic examination/analysis of cell phone.

Tamara Johnson, 37, turned herself in at the Meriden Police Department on Nov. 21, according to McKay.

Johnson was arrested on a charge of risk of injury to a minor/impairing the morals of a minor. She was released after posting a $25,000 bond.

“At the Meriden Police Department, we are unwavering in our commitment to meticulously investigating all reports of crimes against children,” McKay wrote in a news release. “We, along with the Meriden Public schools, firmly believe that schools should be secure and safe places for children to receive an education, and we are committed to sustaining our collaborative efforts with the Meriden Board of Education to ensure this endures.”
