Guns Found In Bin At Storage Facility, Convicted Felon Arrested: Meriden PD

A convicted felon was arrested following an "exhaustive investigation" after a bin was found full of guns at a storage facility, police said

MERIDEN, CT — A convicted felon was arrested Tuesday in connection with a plastic bin that was found full of guns at a storage facility in Meriden last year, according to police.

Police received a call on Dec. 12, 2024 from Just Storage on West Main Street reporting that they had a plastic bin in their possession from a unit that was cleaned out for nonpayment.

“While moving the bin a handgun fell out and at that point they called the police,” police wrote in a news release. “Upon officers’ arrival they found that the bin contained several firearms as well as ammunition. The bin was seized and Det. McKenna was assigned to the investigate this incident further. An inventory was completed of the bin and inside there were 5 handguns, one with an obliterated serial number, over 200 rounds of various calibers of ammunition, firearm accessories and a ‘Glock Switch.’ A ‘Glock Switch’ is an aftermarket auto sear device that is installed into a Glock style handgun that converts the handgun to an automatic weapon.”

Police said an “exhaustive investigation” determined that Toby Brown was the owner of the guns and other items in the bin.

Brown, 44, is a convicted felon and not allowed to possess firearms, according to police.

Brown was arrested Nov. 4 on a warrant and charged with five counts of criminal possession of a firearm, and one count each of possession of a rate fire enhancement, alteration of firearm serial number, illegal transfer of a firearm, and criminal possession of ammunition. He was released after posting a $350,000 bond with a court date of Nov. 18.
