MERIDEN, CT — Police are trying to find the owner of a kitten that was found in a stolen vehicle that crashed with a police cruiser last week in Meriden.

A Meriden police cruiser with two detectives inside was involved in a crash with a stolen vehicle on South Broad Street in Meriden on Aug. 10.

Meriden police and several other local departments were searching for the vehicle as it was suspected of being used in armed robberies in Wallingford, Branford, Southington, and Torrington, just hours before the crash, according to police.

The occupants of the stolen vehicle were also suspected of driving head-on at Meriden police officers, and civilians, and swerving away at the last moment over several hours earlier that morning, according to police.

Officers found three stolen vehicles, with suspects, in Hubbard Park. As officers approached, police said the suspects lit one car on fire and fled in the other two.

While the stolen vehicle was being processed after the crash, police said a 7-week-old male cat was found under the seat.

“Our investigation has led us to believe this kitten was acquired somewhere between the robbery in Wallingford, Branford, Southington, and Torrington,” police wrote in a news release. “We are hopeful someone recognizes our adorable feline friend and can help us reunite him with his owner.”
