Patch: What's the most common piece of advice you give to residents?

One of our top priorities is making sure Meriden residents have access to trustworthy information—so they can make the best decisions for their families. While it may feel like fall is far off, now is the time for families with young children to start preparing for the 2025–2026 school year.

If your child is starting Kindergarten this fall, Meriden Public Schools require that they have a wellness visit with a healthcare provider before the first day of school. In addition, the Connecticut Department of Public Health requires certain vaccines for kids to attend school or daycare.

School wellness appointments book up fast. It’s a good idea to call your child’s doctor now to get on their calendar. If you don’t have a pediatrician or need help connecting with one, our team can assist. You can call our Public Health Clinic at (203) 630-4234 or visit us at 165 Miller Street.

Patch: How would you say your organization distinguishes itself from the others?

The Public Health Clinic provides school-required and early childhood vaccines at no cost for Meriden residents, ages 18 and younger, regardless of their health insurance status. This is made possible through the Connecticut Vaccine Program (CVP).

During your first visit, staff will schedule all your child’s vaccine appointments to help ensure they complete the series for certain early childhood and school-required vaccines. Our staff speaks Spanish and English and written materials are available in multiple languages. Remember, you have the right to translation services in any medical office in Connecticut; just ask.
