Louisiana Man Charged in Alleged Sexual Relationship with Meriden Child

Meriden police said the man targeted a 12-year-old in the city – one of several children across the country – in a computer-related effort to establish sexual relationships with minors.

Officers in Louisiana have arrested a man in connection with a series of attempts to establish sexual relationships with minors over the Internet, including one with a 12-year-old in Meriden, police said Monday.

Emmanual Van Tran, of 2612 Carrie Lane in Marrero, La., was taken into custody following a search of his home on June 12, police said.

Tran, 23, is facing charges of indecent behavior with juveniles, attempted pornography involving juveniles, computer-aided solicitation of a minor and extortion. He remains in custody in Louisiana, according to officers.

Meriden police, in partnership with Louisiana authorities, built a case against Tran after receiving information that an out of-state adult later identified as Tran, had been in sexual contact with a 12-year-old in Meriden using a computer.

After building the case, Meriden Police Det. Lt. Mark Walerysiak told the Record-Journal that Louisiana authorities were able to secure a warrant and searched Tran’s home, arresting him without incident.

Further details of the case were not immediately available.
