Maloney High School’s Straub, Bronk Interim’s No Longer

After taking over new roles in February with the retirement of former principal Ann Hushin, Jennifer Straub and Lou Bronk have each been hired to the roles full-time.

Maloney High School has seen improved test scores, lower suspension and expulsion rates and a generally strong academic environment in recent years and members of the Board of Education believe Jennifer Straub and Lou Bronk are the right team to keep it moving in the right decision.

The Board of Education hired Straub as the full-time principal a few weeks back and has recently named Bronk assistant principal at the high school.

The decisions were made based on positive results members saw in the school as the two stepped up and transitioned into their new roles over the past five months. Straub was promoted from assistant principal to principal and Bronk moved from guidance director to assistant principal in February.

Both saw their promotions after former Maloney Principal Ann Hushin retired.

Bronk, who moved to Meriden when he was just 4, is a Platt High School graduate and understands the city and its schools, while Straub has shown an excellent leadership ability in her time at the school, board members said.

“We’re extremely pleased to have them,” Board of Education President Mark Hughes told the Record-Journal.
