Meriden City Councilor Resigns, Cites Serious Health Issues: Reports
The City Council is expected to fill the vacancy next month.
MERIDEN, CT — Longtime City Councilor and former Meriden Mayor Michael Rohde has resigned from the City Council over “serious physical health issues,” according to multiple reports, including WTNH News 8.
WTNH reports Rohde, 80, served on the City Council for 25 years and five years as mayor.
Mayor Kevin Scarpati said in a statement to WTNH that Rohde has “left a profound impact on Meriden” and that his “vision and determination have helped reshape our community and set us up for a promising future.”

Rohde was inducted into the city's Hall of Fame last month for his political and community leadership, according to the Record-Journal.
The Record-Journal reported that the City Council is expected to fill Rohde’s vacancy at its first meeting in December.
