Meriden Election Results 2023: Scarpati Wins 5th Term As Mayor
Meriden residents have cast their votes in the 2023 municipal election in a number of key races.

MERIDEN, CT — Incumbent Mayor Kevin Scarpati was elected to a fifth term, defeating Republican challenger Kurt Hourigan in Tuesday’s municipal election.
Scarpati received 4,870 votes, while Hourigan collected 2,993 total votes as the candidate for the Republican and We the People parties, according to unofficial results from the Secretary of the State’s Office.
Republicans picked up a seat on the City Council, with Michael Zakrezewski defeating Democratic incumbent Krystle Blake, according to the Record-Journal. Democrats now hold a 7-5 majority on the council.

The Record-Journal reports Democrats picked up a seat on the Board of Education, but Republicans held on to the majority with a 5-4 edge.

Incumbent Democratic Mayor Kevin Scarpati is being challenged by Republican Kurt Hourigan, who is also endorsed as the We the People Party candidate.

For City Council, the candidates are: (Area 1) Democrat Sonya Jelks and Republican / We the People Party Isabel Rosa-Kaiser; (Area 2) Democrat Joe Scaramuzzo and Republican / Independent / We the People Party Dan Zaborowski; (Area 3) Democrat Krystle Blake and Republican / Independent / We the People Party; (Area 4) Democrat Kirsten Misner and Republican / We the People Party Mike Carabetta.
For City Council At-Large, residents will vote for any two candidates. The Democratic candidates are Michael Rohde and Chad Cardillo. Sean McDonald and Elain Cariati are the Republican / We the People Party candidates.
For Board of Education, residents will vote for any four candidates. The Democratic candidates are Maria Scarlett, Diadette Hernandez, Enileika Lopez-Riddle and Nickimmy Hayes. Rob Kosienski Jr., Anthony Martorelli, and Elmer Gonzalez are the Republican / We the People Party candidates. Michael David Rider is the Working Families Party candidate.
For City Clerk, the Democratic candidate is Michael Cardona and Denise L. Grandy is the Republican / Independent / We the People Party candidate.
