Meriden Man Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash, ID Released: Hamden Police
A Meriden man was killed when the scooter he was operating was struck by a driver that left the scene, according to police.
HAMDEN, CT — A Meriden man was killed in a hit-and-run crash involving a scooter and another vehicle Sunday in Hamden, according to police.
Police responded around 4:40 p.m. on Nov. 2 to a report of a crash involving a motor scooter on Mix Avenue, near the south entrance to the Broadmoore Apartments, according to Lt. Robert Manfield.
Manfield said responding officers found the scooter’s operator, 34-year-old Shareef Johnson of Meriden, suffering from life-threatening injuries. Johnson was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival, according to Manfield.

“Initial findings suggest that Johnson was traveling southbound on Mix Ave. when a vehicle exiting the Broadmoore Apartments’ south entrance veered into his path,” Manfield wrote in a news release. “Following the collision, the driver of the motor vehicle momentarily stopped but then fled the scene north on Mix Ave.”
The suspect vehicle has since been located by the Hamden Police Department, according to Manfield.

Members of the Hamden Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and are conducting the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Hamden Police Traffic Division at 203-230-4000. Information can be provided anonymously, Manfield said.
