Meriden Teen, 18, Charged After High-Speed Chase On 1-84: State Police

The 18-year-old and two juveniles were arrested after crashing on I-84 following the use of stop sticks, according to officials.

DANBURY, CT — An 18-year-old Meriden resident and two juveniles were arrested Thursday after a high-speed police pursuit that began in New York and ended with a crash on Interstate 84 in Connecticut, authorities said.

The chase started in Westchester County, N.Y., where New York State Police and local officers were pursuing a silver Audi A4 linked to an attempted auto theft, according to Connecticut State Police. The vehicle sped north on I-684 before heading east on I-84 toward the Connecticut state line.

Troopers with Connecticut State Police’s Troop A set up along I-84 in Danbury and deployed stop sticks as the Audi crossed into the state at high speed. The vehicle struck the stop sticks but continued eastbound before crashing into the median near Exit 2, police said.

Witnesses reported that three men fled the scene on foot, heading toward Mill Plain Road. Officers from both Connecticut State Police and Danbury Police launched a search, aided by multiple 911 calls from local residents reporting sightings of the suspects.

All three were located and arrested without incident about a quarter-mile from the crash site, authorities said.

Police identified one of the suspects as Antoine Maurice Clark, 18, of Meriden. The other two were juveniles whose names were not released. Investigators determined that the Audi displayed a license plate from a similar make and model but was otherwise legally registered and insured.

Clark and the two juveniles face multiple charges, including reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, operating a vehicle without a license, and interfering with an officer. Clark was held on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Friday. The juveniles are set to appear in New Britain Juvenile Court on Feb. 27.

The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
