New Traffic Shift Announced On Route 15 In Meriden

The traffic shift takes place this week, and is expected to be in place for about 18 months, according to officials.

MERIDEN, CT — The Connecticut Department of Transportation has announced a traffic shift to the new portion of the Paddock Avenue Bridge over Route 15 in Meriden will start this week.

The traffic shift is scheduled to take place on Thursday night, Sept. 18, and will be in place for approximately a year and a half, according to officials.

“The purpose of project 0079-0246, the I-91, I-691, Route 15 Interchange Improvements (Phase Two), is to address traffic operational and safety concerns associated with capacity, congestion, and weaving,” officials wrote in the advisory.

CTDOT Project No. 0079-0246 was awarded to O&G Industries at a cost of $185,000,000 on January 29, 2024, and is scheduled to be completed November 30, 2028. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Rocky Hill.

LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO

Motorists can expect the continuation of alternating one-way traffic on the Paddock Avenue Bridge in Meriden, however, traffic will shift to the newly constructed side of the bridge. The shift is anticipated to take place on Thursday night, September 18, 2025, and continue for a year and a half. Traffic signal control will be in place to guide motorists through the work zone. Note that the temporary sidewalk will shift as well on the outside of the bridge.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
