Obituary: August F. Cruz, Jr., 58, of South Meriden
August operated the family business A+D package store for many years. He was an avid music enthusiast, sports fan and devoted family man.
MERIDEN, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) August F. Cruz, Jr. 58 of South Meriden, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 12, 2022 at his home.
He was born in Meriden, November 24, 1963, a son of the late August F. Cruz Sr. and Diane J. (Wood) Cruz, he grew up in Wallingford and resided in Meriden. He was a graduate of Holy Trinity School and Wilcox Technical High School class of ‘82.
August’s life was full of many joys. As a young man in addition to playing Wallingford Junior League football with his brother Fred he participated in Boy Scouts later serving as pack leader for pack 36. As an adult he helped run the family business A+D package store on the west side of Wallingford.
His love of music and sound was like no other. He took every opportunity to share his favorite music and songs with his family and friends.
One of his favorite hobbies was spinning his vinyl records for everyone. Often including his stories of concerts that he attended and memories of his youth. He had a way to make every song note touch your soul.
He especially enjoyed spending time with his friends, having good conversations and his laugh was contagious. He enjoyed fishing, going to the gun range, DJing events for family and friends, and watching the Dolphins, Yankees, and WWE.
Above all else August loved being a father to his three children and being a grandfather. He was very excited to welcome his new granddaughter this coming December.
He is survived by Jacqueline Cruz - mother of his children of NH; his children, Sarah Cruz and her husband Jeff Bellemare of Meriden, August F. Cruz III and his husband Garret Sundstrom of Langdon, NH, and Dylan Cruz and his wife Carolyn of Wallingford; his grandchildren, Brooklyn and August Bellemare and an expected granddaughter; his sister, Kathleen Cruz and her companion Jeff Hall of Wallingford; his brother, Thomas Cruz; and
many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Frederick J. Cruz.
His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Ext., Sunday, June 19th from 1 to 4pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10am directly at Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 N. Colony St., Wallingford.
