Obituary: Charles A. Wendt III, 63, of Meriden

Chuck was an avid car and motorcycle enthusiast and devoted family man. He worked many years for Rowe Machine and Pratt & Whitney Aircraft.

MERIDEN, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Charles A. Wendt III, 63, of Meriden, died peacefully Wednesday, October 6, 2021 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the loving husband of 27 years of Audrey (Benevento) Wendt.

Chuck was born in Meriden, September 18, 1958, a son of the late Charles A. Wendt Jr. and Norma (Rowell) Wendt and graduated from Sheehan High School. He worked alongside his family at Rowe Machine and later retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft.

He was passionate about Motorcycles and Hot Rods and fabricated many custom bikes and cars. He and Audrey enjoyed retirement traveling cross country visiting 42 states in their motor home with their loving pet Harley and going on many cruises and trips with family and friends.

He also had a second home in Okechobee, Florida where he loved to spend his winters during retirement.

In addition to his wife Audrey, Chuck is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Krista and Luigi Scalo; his step-daughters, Alison Mejias and Lindsey Harris and her husband Calvin; his adored grandchildren, Luciano Scalo, Giuliana Scalo, Maddox Mejias, Mason Mejias and Camden Harris; his brother, Ronald Wendt; his sister, Lori Podlisny and her husband Michael; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

His family would like to thank Franciscan Home Care and Hospice care for the care they provided.
Chuck’s family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, on Monday, October 11th, from 4 to 7pm.

Words of remembrance will be shared in the funeral home at 6:30pm. Interment will be private. In honor of Chuck’s love of cars and bikes, please drive or ride your favorite car, hot rod or motorcycle to the funeral home.
