Obituary: George “Gigi” Porto, 76, of South Meriden

Gigi, an avid football and horse racing fan, worked as a construction laborer for Local 455 for many years until his retirement.

MERIDEN, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) George “Gigi” Porto, 76, of South Meriden, loving husband of 48 years to Patricia (Monahan) Porto, passed away March 9, 2021 at MidState Medical Center.

He was born in New Haven on October 8, 1944, a son of the late George G. and Rose (Cofrancesco) Porto.

He worked as a construction laborer for Local 455 for many years until his retirement.

Gigi loved football and horse racing, especially Sports Haven and Gulfstream Racetrack. He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida. He also loved spending quality time with his family and good friends.

In addition to his wife, Pat, he is survived by his daughters, Amanda Agnew (Tom), Danielle Porto (Jay), and his grandchildren, Ian and Eva Agnew. Gigi is also survived by many others including his cousin, Anthony DePasquale, his brother-in-law, Ralph Tortora, and his sisters-in-law, Linda Ely and Donna Perrelli.

He was predeceased by his sister, Joann Tortora and his sister-in-law, Jean Monahan.

His family will receive visitors at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Wallingford on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 from 5 pm until 7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to either the American Cancer Society or The National Kidney Foundation.

Face masks are required and Covid-19 precautions and social distancing needs to be observed.
