Obituary: Mary "Betty" Elizabeth Ocone, 78, of Meriden

Mary served many years as a paraprofessional at Platt High School and volunteered for various community organizations.

MERIDEN, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Mary "Betty" Elizabeth Ocone, 78, of Meriden, wife of the late Robert Ocone, passed away peacefully November 8, 2021 at her home in Meriden.

Mary was born in Newfoundland on June 12, 1943, a daughter of the late John and Blanche (Powers) Hickey.

Mary married and relocated to the United States residing in Connecticut. She spent her career as a paraprofessional at Platt High School.

She spent many summers working at the John J. Nerden RTC camp.

Working with children with intellectual disabilities was her passion. She was also the former owner of the South Meriden House.

She volunteered her time at Our Lady Queen of Angels as a religious education teacher and also with different organizations within the church.

Her light heartedness, positivity and singing will be missed by many.

Mary is survived by her daughters, SueEllen Rogers and her husband, Christopher, of Meriden and Ann Marie Ocone and her husband, Gary Maratea, of Meriden; her son, Robert Ocone and his wife, Anne Marie Girard, of Meriden; her sister, Carol Anne Hickey, of Vancouver, BC; her brothers, James and John Hickey, both of Newfoundland; her grandchildren, CJ and Samantha Rogers; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary's family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. on Monday, November 15, 2021 from 4 pm until 7 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday directly at Holy Angels Church in Meriden.

Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the John J. Nerden JRTC camp, PO Box 2617, Meriden CT 06450.
