Obituary: Nicholas J. Russo, Jr., 64, of Meriden

Nick, a devoted family man and avid car enthusiast, worked for the Town of Wallingford Electric Division for many years.

MERIDEN, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Nicholas J. Russo, Jr., 64, of Meriden, beloved husband of 39 years to his high school sweetheart, Debra Russo, passed away on Wednesday, July 21 2021 at Midstate Hospital, following a brief illness.

Nick was born in Meriden on July 14, 1957, the son of the late Nicholas Sr. and Marie (Sasso) Russo.
Nick worked for the Town of Wallingford Electric Division for 22 years and always expressed his love for the town and its residents.

A true family man, Nick held a special bond with his son, Josh, who looked up to his father as his “Saint Nick,” and enjoyed their goofy and silly sense of humor together.

They were the best of friends. At home, he was the Master of the remote, and enjoyed car shows and classic sitcoms the most. Nick loved Christmas and would begin the countdown in January.

Nick had a passion for restoring classic cars, was known as a “Gear Head” by many and loved cruising in his 1964 Buick Skylark and his 1970 Pontiac LeMans.

He collected Lionel trains and Coca-Cola merchandise.

In addition to his wife, Debra, he is survived by his cherished son, Joshua Russo of Meriden; his siblings, John Russo and his wife, Kim, of Wallingford, Maryanne Brooks and her husband, Steve, of Wallingford, Donna Carrah and her husband, Michael, of Wolcott and Richard Russo and his wife, Dawn, of Wallingford; his mother-in-law, Leona Townsend; his niece, Christina Carrah; his nephews, Michael Carrah and Erik Russo; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Nick was predeceased by his father-in-law, Douglas Townsend who passed away earlier this year and held a special remembrance of his dog, Scotty, the Cairn Terrier who passed away three years ago.

Nick’s effervescence will forever last in the hearts of his family.

Nick’s family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Wallingford, on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from 5 pm until 7 pm.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 11 am, directly at First Baptist Church, 114 North Main Street, Wallingford.

Internment will follow at In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford.
