Student Charged In Threat Against Middle School: Meriden Police
A middle school student has been arrested in connection with a threat that was made against the school on social media, according to police.

MERIDEN, CT — A student has been arrested in connection with a threat made against Thomas Edison Middle School in Meriden on social media, according to police.
Police were notified earlier on Sunday about a post on Snap Chat that made threats against “Edison school.”
“Collectively, the Meriden Police Department and Meriden Board of Education take threats to our school system, students and staff extremely seriously,” Deputy Chief Jeremiah Scully wrote in a news release. “The Meriden Police Department, with the assistance of Meriden Public Schools personnel immediately initiated an investigation. Our Detective and School Resource Division’s requested the assistance of the FBI’s New Haven office.

“As a result of our collective investigative efforts, we were able to identify where the threat originated. Detectives made contact with an Edison Middle School student, who allegedly made the threatening post. This was a labor intensive process to identify the student. The student's parents have been cooperative.”
The student was charged with first-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace. The student was released to his parents' custody. He is scheduled to appear in juvenile court on Monday morning, according to Scully.

“A crisis intervention specialist responded to the student’s residence and conducted an evaluation,” Scully wrote. “The student will be subject to further administrative disciplinary action from the Board of Education.
“The Meriden Police Department and Meriden Public Schools commend those, who came forward and provided us with information related to this threatening post.
“Effective Monday morning, Meriden Police will have an increased presence at Edison Middle School to offer reassurance to staff, parents, and students.”
