Studebakers Set to Take Over Meriden Streets

Cruise on to the Village at Kensington Place this weekend and enjoy a first-hand look at some American classics.

There are few things more American than a classic automobile and on Sunday afternoon, local residents will have a chance to enjoy a chance to see some Studebaker’s in action.

The Nutmeg Chapter of the Studebaker Driving Club will host the special event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Village at Kensington Place, 511 Kensington Ave. in Meriden. The event is open to the public and owners of Studebakers are welcome to join, free of charge.

Studebaker Car President Chip Dayton said he’s looking forward to the opportunity to meet those in the community and share the love for classic cars that members of the club have.

“The Studebaker Club is very happy and excited to share our cars and stories with everyone,” he said.

As part of the show, attendees will have an opportunity to vote for their favorites and enjoy a barbecue hosted by the Village at Kensington Place. The barbecue will include a hot dog, chips, watermelon and bottled water for $5.

The Nutmeg Chapter was formed in 1975, but it met with little success, according to the club’s website. Ten years later, it was reactivated due to the work of Pete Dimitri, Bill Cathcart, Dan Foley, and other members of the SDC.

The club now has a roster of over 65 active members and nationwide, the SDC now contains more than 12,500 members.

For more information on the event, or to RSVP, call (203) 599-0528. All benefits will go to the One Company Fund for The Village at Kensington Place.
