Sunset Avenue Fight, Battle With Police Leads to Charges

A police report said a 36-year-old Meriden man attacked a potential love interest and a male friend of her with a 2x4 plank then proceeded to attack responding officers, injuring one.

Love can be a battlefield and for one Meriden resident, rejection and his reaction to it has landed him in court.

Officers took Eric Nosal, of 115 Meetinghouse Village in Meriden, into custody last week after a series of incidents that began when police said Nosal went to visit a woman he’d met previously at a party. It ended with Nosal, 36, in handcuffs and a officer with injuries to his knees.

Nosal was arraigned last week in Meriden Superior Court and charged with assault on a police officer, interfering with police, breach of peace, third-degree assault and third-degree criminal mischief.

According to the police report, officers responded to Sunset Avenue with reports of a fight involving three people but arrived to find that one of the people had fled the scene. Witnesses, including a woman involved, said Nosal had come over to talk with a woman he was interested in and the woman rejected him and asked him to leave.

Moments later, a male friend of the woman arrived and police said Nosal returned with a 2x4 plank in hand. He allegedly proceeded to attack the two, police said.

When officers went to Nosal’s home to question him, the police report said he proceeded to attack officers and refused to cooperate.

“They did not use a Taser,” Lt. Sal Nesci said. “According to the report, he attacked aggressively and officers were unable to try and calm him or even pull a Taser before he had engaged them. It took several officers to finally subdue him.”

According to reports, one of the officers suffered minor injuries to his knees after Nosal allegedly attacked the officer, taking him out by his legs. He was treated for the injuries and expected to make a full recovery, according to the report.

Nosal is being held in lieu of a $40,000 bond, court records show. He is due back in Meriden Superior Court in August.
