What Road in Meriden Needs a Speed Bump?

We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

MERIDEN, CT - Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Meriden. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

  • "Bradley Ave."
  • "Gravel St."
  • "Murdock."
  • "Alexander Drive. It's in a quiet neighborhood with a cul-de-sac with a lot of young children riding bikes and playing sports and we have 1 or 2 people who speed up and down the street."
  • "You mean pot holes don't count?"
  • "Alexander Drive, by the cul de sac."
  • "Elmwood drive! It's like a highway going though there!"
  • "Putnam St! We have a partially deaf child, and people always speed down our street. Someone even ran onto the sidewalk where my godson was riding his skateboard and cracked in half because they were speeding and couldn't control their car. This street is full of kids and cars just don't seem to care."
  • "Instead of wasting money on that, how about a police speed trap thing or put a cop out there. It would cost less."
