100 MPH Driver Nabbed After Getting Stuck In Traffic Off Route 9: Cops
A teen went from 100 to zero in a hurry and that's when state police nabbed him off Route 9, a report indicates.

CROMWELL, CT — A teenage driver decelerated from 100 to zero in just a few seconds and that allowed state police to apprehend him during a pursuit near the Cromwell-Middletown line, a report shows.
State police released details of the Oct. 25 case Thursday.
The incident unraveled at 11:49 a.m. that day, when a trooper was on a speed enforcement detail on Route 9 southbound in Cromwell, state police said.

According to an incident report, the trooper observed a vehicle with heavily tined windows and a dark tinted registration plate filter traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of exit 27.
The Trooper caught up to the silver Infiniti Q50 at 100 mph and tried to pull it over, according to an incident report. The driver failed to stop and continued traveling southbound at a high rate of speed in traffic, exited the highway via the Exit 27 off-ramp, but it had to come to a quick stop on Shunpike Road because of traffic congestion, according to an incident report.

The trooper approached the Infiniti and directed the driver to exit the vehicle, according to an incident report.
The driver was then identified as Joseph Antonino Cane, 18, of New Britain, was ultimately taken into State Police custody and transported to Troop H for processing. Cane was charged with the following violations:
C.G.S. 14-18(c); Violation Concerning Mutilated or Illegible Plates
C.G.S. 14-99g(g); Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle w/o Tint Sticker
C.G.S. 14-222; Reckless Driving
C.G.S. 14-223(a); Disobeying the Signal of an Officer
C.G.S. 14-223(b)**; Engaging Police in Pursuit
C.G.S. 53a-167a; Interfering with an Officer
C.G.S. 53a-63; Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree
Following arrest processing, Cane was released on a $10,000 cash/surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Middletown Superior Court on 11/14/2024.
