Arrigoni Bridge Crash Claims Life Of Middletown Man

A Tuesday night fatal crash prompted closure of the Arrigoni Bridge.

PORTLAND/MIDDLETOWN, CT — A crash on the Arrigoni Bridge Tuesday night claimed the life of a Middletown man, Portland police said.

The crash took place at 8:43 p.m,. on the Portland side of the bridge, police said.

The crash involved a red Subaru that was traveling west, police said. The driver was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident and, on Wednesday night, was identified as Jozef Baran, 70, of Middletown.

A black Ford escape heading east with a 31-year-old Portland woman driving was also involved, police said. The woman was transported to Hartford Hospital with unspecified injuries.

The vehicles hit head-on, police said.

The crash is still under investigation and anyone with any information or who may have witnessed the crash is being asked to call the Portland Police Department at 860-342-6780.

The Arrigoni Bridge was closed from the mid-evening period Tuesday into the overnight period because of a fatal crash, Portland police said.
