MIDDLETOWN, CT — Volunteers with the Middletown Community Thanksgiving Project Tuesday assembled and began distributing nearly 1,200 Thanksgiving meals to families across the city.

Local businesses, community partners, and residents donated turkeys, potatoes, canned vegetables, rolls, and desserts to ensure families can enjoy a holiday meal.

The Middletown Community Thanksgiving Project is a collaboration of local nonprofits, faith communities, volunteers, and the Middlesex United Way. The idea is to "work together so every Middletown family can enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal, regardless of financial circumstances."

This year, the need was at a record high, with more than 1,000 families registered. And expectations are to serve about 1,100 families by Thanksgiving.

The Middletown Police Department, Middletown Police Activity League and Middletown Police Cadets helped lead the charge to meet this year’s increased need for turkeys.
