  • Compost at home. If you have a compost bin at home, you can put your pumpkin in it, and it will turn into compost. It’s best to cut it into smaller pieces to compost quickly.
  • Bring pumpkins to the Recycling Center or the Food Scrap Drop off at 675 Randolph Road and dispose of them with the food scraps.
  • Put the pumpkin out for a tasty treat for wildlife. The National Wildlife Federation says woodland creatures love pumpkins to snack on. It would be helpful to cut it into smaller pieces.

Middletown Recreation Department said if the pumpkin is painted, it would be best to carve it up, use the seeds, and then trash the outside.
