MIDDLETOWN, CT — The city of Middletown and the Middletown Police Department have announced that, for the first time in its history, the department has been awarded CALEA Accreditation, officially recognizing it as an accredited law enforcement agency.

Here is the rundown:

This prestigious achievement signifies that the Middletown Police Department operates at the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and performance, both nationally and within the State of Connecticut. The accreditation reflects the department’s unwavering commitment to excellence and to serving the community with integrity.
Chief Erik Costa expressed his gratitude to those who played a key role in the accreditation process.
“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Accreditation Manager Darren Perillo and Administrative Lieutenant Derek Puorro for their exceptional work in ensuring that our policies and procedures align with federal and state law, as well as with best practices in modern law enforcement. Their dedication and leadership were essential to reaching this milestone.”
Chief Costa also acknowledged the strong support of Middletown Police Department and Police Officer’s Union 1361. “I would also like to thank Mayor Gene Nocera, Former Mayor Benjamin Florsheim, and the Middletown Common Council for their consistent support of our department and its mission.
