MIDDLETOWN, CT — The Middletown Board of Education Thursday night discussed the future of its superintendent of schools in Connection with a drunken driving charge over the summer in Florida.

Alberto Vazquez Matos, 51, was hired in Middletown in 2021 as acting superintendent and then the appointment was made permanent a year later. According to the Hillsbrough County Clerk of Courts records site, He was charged with driving under the influence on July 29. He is also accused of having two "valid" driver's licenses in Connecticut and Florida.

When contacted, school system officials said, "The Middletown Public Schools district does not comment on individual personnel matters."

According to the special meeting agenda for Thursday night, the Middletown school board had a scheduled executive discussion to discuss Matos and then will discuss "possible action" in open session.

The meeting was slated for the Alfred B. Tychsen Administration Building,
311 Hunting Hill Ave. in Conference Room B.
